The idea for theheinrichmaneuver.net (THM.net or THM) was conceived during a meeting of the Orientation Committee that was planning the orientation for the NJMS class of 2012. The one thing that previous classes lacked during their first year at NJMS was a central place to go to to find out the basic things that we needed to know about being a student at New Jersey Medical School. The information that we needed existed in various places, but it was disorganized and scattered among a number of different resources. The goal of THM is to provide this type of information in an organized manner.
THM is a student-developed and student-run site. It was created without the use of any institute funds and maintains its independence from university administration (aside from the name, discussed below). This, we hope, will allow us to be as objective as possible when discussing the strengths and weaknesses of the university, the city of Newark, and our lives as medical students as a whole.
The site is, of course, named after our very own beloved Dr. George Heinrich, with his permission. We thought that, since he is the face of New Jersey Medical School to (particularly) all those who apply to the school, creating a site with his namesake would allow it to have a similar ability to reach out to those applying as well as those who are already here, and make their lives just a little bit easier, much as he does.
